In a world where we focus on a fast paced, gotta do everything lifestyle, we stopped making ourselves a priority. We stopped remembering that we are human, that we need time to recharge, and that sometimes we have to say no to others, so that we can say yes to us.

Making ourselves a priority in our life, is a necessity. It’s a necessity for us, because nobody else will make us a priority the way we can make ourselves a priority. Nobody knows what we need more than us.

One question I get asked alot is how do we make ourselves a priority. I’ve put together some of the top things we can do personally to make ourselves a priority in our own life.

1) Set limitations: We don’t set boundaries often enough that protect our own personal integrity, beliefs or even our time. We need to set limitations to what we take on, who we support and how we support them. A life without limitations takes away from the time we have to prioritize ourselves.

2) Get rid of the guilt:  When we give to ourselves, even just in the manner of time, we oftne feel guilty that we aren’t giving enough to others and are guilty for taking time for ourselves and making our health, mental-stability and emotional-strength a priority. We have to stop feeling guilty for taking time for us, no matter what is happening.

3) Stop worrying: When we worry, we aren’t making ourselves a priority. Worry takes away from the ability to focus on our own well-being. If we cannot control a situation or issue, worry is just an added weight on our shoulders that makes us need to take even more time for our own personal strength. Worry is just another way that we lose the necessary control of our own lifes.

4) Speak Kindly of Yourself: When we speak of ourselves in a kind manner, we make our won self a priority. We allow our own positive self-talk to overpower and outweight the negative talk of others. It gives us back the internal power needed to make your life a priority.

5) Learn to Say No: This is hard for me, as a people-pleaser it is hard to say no to people. But something to remember is that everytime you say “YES” to someone or something else, you are saying “NO” to you. This goes back to the limitations and boundaries; knowing when you HAVE to say “NO” to manage those limitations and allow yourself the time for you.

These 5 things will empower you to make yourself a priority in your own life. Use them as you can; and you may have to start with just one, but even one is a step in the right direction to making yourself a priority in your own life.
